guitar help

hi when i play chords my pinky mutes the string after it... its really hard to stop this happening any tips?

Sounds weird, but where is your thumb? It should be in the middle of the back of the neck, not curled around the side. That'll raise your knuckles, which in turn should keep everything but the tips of your fingers away from the strings. Just find a position where they're not muting, and get used to putting your hand there.


Good technique is very hard to get once you've gotten into nasty habits :wink:

That's good advice generally, but it depends on the chord and the chord changes you are in and out of. Sometimes it is expedient to use the thumb.

I can't think of a chord or a chord change that'd need me to move my thumb round the neck Image

Unless you do those weird using-your-thumb barre chords. Horses for courses I guess :P
