5 string bass, what gauge for GCGCG tuning?

Right now I've got it tuned way up to CGCGC to work with my six strings, but I'm thinking about tuning my seven string to GCGCGCE, & I'll need to re-string the bass to match the tuning. Last time I had it strung up for drop A tuning I used a standard four-string set & added a .135 low string (it's currently got a real light 5 set on it now). Think the .135 can handle the low G? I had to drill the bridge for that thing to fit, I don't know if I'll be able to fret anything much bigger! :p

Depends on the bass. If it's a long enough scale (more than 34") and has a good neck you'll probably be fine. Otherwise it's a gamble.

I have a .135 on the low B on my 5-string (34" scale) and I really don't think it would cut it for a low G

It's a 35". I'll probably get a 135 & 140, & start out with the 135.

Just a heads up, Byron was going GCGCF (incase it was of interest)
