Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice. Practice.
Basically just rehearse the guitar part until you can play it without thinking, and rehearse the singing part untill you can sing it without thinking. Than rehearse the two at the same time util you can nail it without thinking. Then practice while walking around, while headbanging, and so on.

Though I'm surely not an experienced player, I guess the best, as usual, is to start with easy stuff (easy rock stuff).
I'm far from being able to play the guitar WELL, but it's cool when you can sing along, even easy parts, and at least when someone comes to talk to you and you don't want to stop playing, you don't look like a total retarded who's got not enough brain to move his hands and play at the same time :P

But yup', once again, it's automatism, and just automatism... (that's when I realise Alexi Laiho is REALLY good :P )

i read in a book.. yeh believe it or not,. a book.. "practice.... practice.. practice... till your fingers bleed and you have a guitar welt on your chest.... i found that this is great for guitar... im not much of a singer though... but a bleeding voice box and a scream welt in my throat doesnt sound like the key to getting anywhere.... WARM UP

They just mean practice. ALOT. and that what I'm gonna do

Are there any songs I can practice this too? I'd write my own, but I'm a horrible writer..

Well, I'm not even a starter for singing while playing, so I do very simple things. My favorite is whistling to the lead synth lines of the ending part (03:53 - 05:08 ) of Arcturus' Radical Cut while playing the guitar chords, which are just straight power chords F#, A, E, B and C#, or as tab:

A: |-----7---------9---10------|
E: |-9---5-7---9---7---9-------|
B: |-7-----5---7---------------|

Yeah, you should always have a little fun during the times when you are not practicing guitar/vocals ;)

Focus that you have a solid rhytm. Some people (like me) start playing without any :)
