So....lately, I've been writing a load of overly simple stuff, which I can't say I'm a fan of, but maybe I can take some of it and make it intos omething...my question is, did I steal this?

It sounds good, it reminds me "Afraid to shoot strangers" from Maiden, don't ask me why ... lol That's the feeling I got :P

Ok. I couldn't watch this asian girl playing the Super Mario Bros. stuff on the guitar (see thread for this), and now when I use this link all I hear are some electronic noises coming out of my speakers (hey fragility, don't think that this is my way of saying that I don't like a certain song... It's really not working, goddammit)

Alright, gotta download a newer version of the Media Player.

It's a MP3 here, you can use winamp or quicktime

Hmm.. That sounds cool, and I don't recognize it either. So you may be good to go.

Speaking of Stolen.. I thought I had written this riff, and I was like wow, this is the coolest.. But I was worried that it was a Megadeth riff or something. So about 2 months later I am going through my playlist, and I put on Helloween - Halloween. I stole their opening riff by accident

Man, this happens/ happened so often to me. Very much like you, I play something and think "Fuck, this rules!" Well, this is day one.
Day two: I play it again, but this time I think "That's very cool indeed... But wait, I know it from...!"
Day three is usually the one when it clicks and I go "Ah, alright. Riff X from song Y by band Z"

Guess my musical hearing works on a very subconcious level then

That happened to me too. Except I stole the opening riff for Opeth - Master's Apparentices (sp). Before I even heard the song.

Well then Opeth stole it from you. Sue them!

Opeth had about 3 riffs on Damnation/Deliverance that they stole from me after I wrote them a couple of years before...of course, there's were much better, but they're too close to mine for me to be able to use them. Thieves I tells ya!

You know, some years ago, during the 90s I had a vision... So I wrote an album called "Infinity" when this skinny Canadian showed up, and...

What did you write them? Did you send them sound files of your songs or gave them links or...?

Sounds good!

but i can't think of anything that you might have stolen it from.. nothing... you're safe ;)

I have this all the time as well... i create a bit of music, work on it for a week, just to hear from some of my friends that it's stolen or sounds just like "REPLACE name here"...

Always freaks me out... haha...

Cheers, and nice playing.. could easily fit into an opeth song.

They were just little riffs. Windowpane being the most obvious, It's not exactly the same, but if I used it, people would be like "that's such a rip off of windowpane"

Yeah. They're worldwide known musicians, so no one believes that you came up with some similar sounding stuff before hearing their songs. Sounds stupid, but that's the way it often is... Well, humans are stupid, so... Uhm... Well, some of them are even too stupid to end their sentences.

Should get some more sleep...

I know. But acting stupid can be great fun, so...

Sometimes I'm actually not quite sure if I'm still acting... Decide for yourselves
