I've just tried the Devin classic tuning and I love it. Within 20 minutes I was finding my feet and a whole ton of new sounds. My Flying V is staying like that forever, its the NEW METAL TUNING as far as I'm concerned. Everything is right there.

What I really love is having fat bass without having the whole guitar detuned.

You got to try it if you haven't yet. A set of 10 - 52s is all you need.

Yup, I use this tuning a lot now that I play Dev stuff and SYL stuff.

At first i was like damn this tuning sucks, back to C#
but the last couple of months ive been getting more and more comfortable with the tuning and now i love it!
i guess it's a tuning you have to get used to, right now i can't think of playing my guitar in a different tuning haha

I understand what you mean, the tuning is just plain awesome!
You do have to get used to it though but the rewards are worth it
Shame I'm having a hard time getting my collaborators to use it as well haha.

I have always wondered what taking Open C down a half step would sound like, I may just try it now.
Could sound fantastic, or it could sound utter shite.

I'd imagine you'd get quite a "chuggy" sound with that, if you tend to play with a lot of distortion and play metal of sorts. If I remember correctly, didn't Sepultura use that tuning?
How does that tuning sound clean anyway?

i know Dino when he was inFear Factory used it. i think Soilwork tune to B aswell. Dino nowadys is tuned to Z# or something but yeah its really chuggy i guess. plus youve got that sort of symmerty that youd be used to if you played in standard tuning

Ah standard tuning, has been a very long time since I last used that, went all experimental and never really went back to basics.

I've tuned my Gretsch Baritone to the Physicist tuning; AAAEAE. That's a great tuning to play and write in.

I've never even DARED to go into that tuning.

Besides I read somewhere that some of the strings are tuned exactly same (presumably the 5th and 6th string but I can't remember exactly).

The 4th and 5th string are tuned exactly the same in the AAA tuning. This is pretty cool though. You will always hear a little difference in frequency, which might just give you the sound you were looking for in a certain song.
