Yet another new song, but this time it's something quite special - it's just total, all-out, progressive with no limits into any direction, the riffs vary from reggae to black metal to techno-blues, and the tempo changes between 150 and 300. The backbeats are in 13/8 and 14/8, and the riffs themselves go from 3/4 to 4/4 to 6/8 to 7/8

Definitely not for the weak of heart :) Enjoy

Oh yeah, the song is the first one: "Variables"

Very tight playing, some cool riffs, cool guitar tone here!

But....

... no limits into any direction, that's true. But I feel this has no direction at all. I don't see where it's going, what it's aiming at. Sounds like edited together from totally unrelated tracks, which is not a sign of a well thought-out songstructure. The parts just follow one another, I am missing a link between things. At 1:37 you drop us into a whole different thing there, what with the electronic drums. Now, as a listener, I ask myself: why? What is the intent of that?
Also, the drum sounds sound rather like human-played drums, but the programming is totally robotic, lacking dynamic variation.

Maybe I just don't "get" it, but I don't feel that the composition of the piece grabs my attention. There's no fault about the guitar playing, the drum programming could use some work, while the rhythms themselves are cool, but the finest display of playing technique doesn't cut it for me, if the composition is lacking.

regards

Tammo

And I think the exact opposite, the composition of that was what excited me :)

that's what makes music so cool
