Here's wikipedia's definition:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archetype

Now, I'm looking for a symbol that represents an archetype, but preferably without representing anything else at the same time...

Any suggestions?

That's a tough one. Archetype usually means prototype, perfect example, origin of some kind, yes?
I don't think you can apply that to a symbol that would refer to nothing...
How about an archetype of matter?
That would be a black dot, representing the most common state of matter in universe, dark matter. Well, in theory anyway..
But people may just mistake it for a mouche.

Ehhhm, I'm getting nowhere with this....
