Of course it's not sad.

I think it's pretty fucked that they wouldn't let him take a breather to recharge his batteries, or even let him come back while a replacement fills in. That seems hardly mature for a band that's been around for 25 years. No wonder Sherinian left.

Those fuckers.

Dream Theater is one of my all-time favorite bands, and I am not surprised in the least, nor do I care. They have been phoning it in for years.

Well, he's good quitting before they go down big time.
Without his direction, Dream Theater will be lost.

He wrote a little something on his Facebook page about it/the reasons/etc in case any of you were curious.

Yeah it's total bullshit that they wouldn't give him a break. Portnoy can be a clown...but they will be a sad parody of themselves without him.

If you ask me, he should have left those ass-clowns years ago.

Still glad i got to see DT with Portnoy on the skins. He was definately the most interesting member of the band to watch, and i could barely see him.
Well the singer did go into hiding whenever he was not singing....

Beyond that, it seems quite annoying that they wouldnt let him take a break.

The part that kills me is that he said he'd be willing to do SOME work in 2011. It's like, why can't petrucci just go do G3 or something, and Labrie can guest and deafen on whatever project he wants and well, no one really cares about the rest.

I don't even really dig DT all that much. My dad went to high school with Derek Sherinian and Derek's super nice and used to come into my dad's restaurant all the time, so that's about as far as my fandom extends. That said, this really annoys the crap out of me.
