i know this has nothing to do with Devin, but i felt the need to post. Ive been a long time fan of Tom Waits and i even got to see him live in Paris on the Mule Variations tour which was almost a religious experience for me. For those of you who havent had the chance, check out his new live album, Glitter and Doom, track one is quite marvellous indeed. He is a unique voice.

yeah that ones ok, but bone machine i think is better. Swordfish Trombones is still my fave. There are so many, but again, the new live album is killer.

I love the album "Alice". The song called "Poor Edward" is genius.

i heard downtown train one night and was horrified that someone could possibly have a music career with a voice like that. i was apalled and angry. but i downloaded that song and from then on proceeded to purchase everything i could of his. he is a god amongst men and i hope for dear life that i can see him live at least once in my life

My brother loves Tom Waits but he can't stand death metal vocals, which puzzles me.

TW is singing from the depths of his soul reflecting dreams dashed in ashtrays and hearts dragged through gutters. Most DM vocalists sing that way because it is the way DM vocalists are expected to sing.
Tom Waits blazed his own trail. 99.99% of DM vocalists plod a well-trodden path.
Tom Waits's lyrics usually have some depth...
