While it isn't surprising, its lame there is no Megadeth in there. I would LOVE to play to some Rust In Peace or Countdown!
But Disposable Heroes, Shortest Straw, and Dyers Eve will do just fine

I can't see the point of spending hundreds of hours perfecting one's technique on a plastic guitar with three buttons when you could learn to play a real guitar in the same time.

But I'm old. The last computer game I mastered was Galaga.

im 20, i agree with you completely. not that GH should be banned but its a damn shame that people could be playing real guitar instead

There was word (and a trailer) of a Metallica video game when St. Anger came out. Didn't suggest it would be a Guitar Hero game though

must have been scrapped. it was a bad idea to begin with. The Wu-Tang Clan tried it and the results were disastrous

It'll be better than Guitar Hero Aerosmith...who the hell cares about Aerosmith? I mean at least Metallica has a good back catalog!

I liked Aerosmith... Although, I didn't buy GH aerosmith. That would be silly.

But personally I like Guitar Hero/Rock band etc etc. the vocals keeps me intune, and I just love playing on fisher price plastic guitars

If nothing else, its just some mindless fun, with lets face it, that's what video gaming is about, in my personal opinion.

I also enjoy the music rhythm games, such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band (I've enjoyed RB more as of late), and one must consider these two important facts:

1) Not everyone is proficient or attentive when you put a real instrument in their hands. But...

2) ...give them a simple control scheme, some songs they recognize, and some friends and you've got yourself a make-shift living room band. Not much hassle, not much time to master, not much money to invest. Perfect formula for the average joe.

A nice way to unwind...and for the un-musical out there, it is a nice alternative to stumbling around on an expensive instrument they're not all that good at. Also, lets face it...if everyone who played Rock Band or Guitar Hero played their plastic instrument's real counterpart, the world would be flooded with lame excuses for so-called "musicians" who think BC Rich guitars are the best ever simply because they "look cool." I say this is just a new example of Darwinism...weeding out those not in it for the love of music, and shedding light on the true musicians who are serious about their skills.

You guys take it too seriously. I have played drums for 13 years. I'm great at it, but I suck at GH/Rockband drums. I'm amazing at the guitar on those games but can't really play guitar. Its different and its just fun.

Think of all the people who are getting into music just from these games. I think its quite a positive thing. And i bet lots of people DO take up real guitar or drums (especially since drumming on these games is much more like real drumming than guitar is real guitar)

Definitely agreed with Rabid Pickle. The tired argument of "but you should be playing a REAL instrument!" is just not valid. Firstly, They're totally different-- I play guitar, bass, drums, and sing, and I can tell you that with a couple exceptions playing those plastic instruments is a totally different experience. I still struggle with guitar hero and I've been playing guitar for about 5 years. Secondly, it's fun! Quit being a party pooper and let people enjoy themselves. Please? It's great that you have pride in your instrument but don't take it too far. No one likes an elitist.

It's just not a realistic thing to do.

But I agree that it is a positive thing. So much negativity surrounds videos games at the moment because of games like GTA, Manhunt etc.

Although I know you lot aren't the kinda people to try stupid stuff in real life, I think these kinda games show people that the VG industry isn't all about sex, drugs, and shooting people.

And can involve adults and kids too.

Actually it's cool when you think about it a bit. Usually people playing games are playing role of somebody badass, total hero, Saviour of the Universe and Its Neighborhood etc. In case of Rock Band, they're pretending they're YOU! Isn't it awesome?

uhh, that's just silly. Everyone knows Jackson guitars are the best because their reverse headstocks look way cooler than those clunky great BC Rich Widow headstocks.

Josiah, I wasn't knocking people who do enjoy GH or saying anyone 'should' do this or that or whatever. Some people play golf for fuck's sake! Just that I personally don't get it. I know someone who is really proficient on GH - whips through the Dragonforce song like strumming 'Teen Spirit' - which i was quite impressed with - then he confided in me that he 'practices' 5 hours a day to 'keep his chops up'...
which just made me think Christ, if i practised 5 hours a day every day I could probably play real guitar like Herman Li (which, of course, is something all us lame excuses for so-called musicians secretly aspire to).

But hey, chaqu'un a son gout.

The two aren't mutually exclusive, and I don't understand why so many people seem to think that they are. The vast majority of people in my group of friends that like guitar hero, also play guitar. Hell, my guitar teacher is absolutely amazing at the guitar, and he plays guitar hero.

I play guitar, and I love guitar hero. I'd also argue that provided you're not playing them in excess, to the exclusion of playing the real thing, that playing games like guitar hero can be an aid to improving your rhythm and coordination when playing a real guitar. If you play slightly out of time on a real guitar, you might not notice. If you play slightly out of time on Guitar Hero, you'll get shafted for it.

Personally, I'm really tempted by Guitar Hero: Metallica. I had a great time playing the Metallica songs on Rock Band and (if I recall correctly) Guitar Hero 3. I've got no time for their newer stuff, but old-school Metallica was what got me into metal, and I can still appreciate their older stuff.
