It's called 'microblogging', you post short messages (at most 140 characters), can follow other people to see their messages, other people can follow you to see yours, you can reply to eachother, all that web-2.0-y goodness. In most countries you can even do it on the road via your cell phone!
At first I wasn't too sure of the purpose either, but I started using it anyway (I'm a whore) and I'm loving it now.

I still don't understand the point of it. MSN had an article last week on all the celebrities using Twitter, so I'm apparently out of the loop. Or square. Or lazy...I don't even visit my Facebook page regularly.

I can't understand it either. You're supposed to update this thing all day (God forbid you'd actually get some work done), but who is interested in reading it?
