Let's lighten the mood. Stuff I listened to before metal

Edit: Youtube is not cooperating.

Anyway, here's what I listened to:
Nu Shooz
Naked Eyes
Wang Chung
Public Enemy
Beastie Boys
Yes
Duran Duran
Depeche Mode.

Then, in 1986, I was introduced to metal. It's been something else ever since. (Metallica's "Master of Puppets". Scared the crap out of me, then.)

oh boy...I listened to the entire Euro Dance garbage untill I was like 14 or 15 ten or eleven years ago and discovered 'Die Krupps' and turned into a Metalhead. But I really listened to a lot of crap when I was a kid. And everybody knows I loved Kris Kross, Vanilla Ice and Snow when I was young  The only 2 groups that I don't regret having listened to back then are The Prodigy And The Chemical Brothers. Those were the days...

Before metal swooped in and took me in as one of it's own, this is what I would listen to:

Tragic Kingdom - No Doubt
What's the Story (Morning Glory?) - Oasis
Discovery - Daft Punk
Lots of stuff from Weird Al Yankovic
A few movie soundtracks
Whatever my brother was watching on MTV (when they played videos)
Whatever my parents listened to (Dan Fogelberg, Heart, America, Eagles, etc.)

It was pretty much like that until early 2003, when I stumbled upon "The Great Deceiver" by Evergrey from their Recreation Day album, and my taste in music has been skewed more toward metal since. I still listen to a lot of other stuff though (stuff listed above, Coheed & Cambria, Prince, Extreme, Eric Johnson, etc, etc).

I used to listen to nu-metal and the radio until I heard In Flames one day. Then I heard Soilwork which led to SYL and since then i've broadened my horizons greatly. Anywhore, if you REALLY must know...

Backstreet Boys
Spice Girls
Disturbed
Korn
System of a Down
Static X
...etc. I still love SoaD, BSB and Spice Girls

I was Nu-metal myself until I grew out of it. I listen a lot of different stuff these days though. Jazz - Rock - Metal...some R&B stuff, I only appreciate the stuff with real musos playing though...

I listened to very little. Mostly Christian stuff.

The O.C. Supertones
DC Talk
Jars of Clay
Sonic Flood
Creed

And some others whose names have been blocked from my memory.

I listened to like... The Offspring, Pennywise, Bad Religion, Blink 182, Catch 22, Sublime, Nine Inch Nails, Radiohead, Tool, Rage Against the Machine, KMFDM and Front Line Assembly before I really got into metal... but then like a year ago i started listening to non-metal stuff again... and actually started liking good metal lol.

I grew up in the 80's, so you better believe I'm a fan of new wave and pop music. 8) Mostly:

-Duran Duran
-David Bowie
-Wham!
-Hall & Oates
-Tears for Fears
-Prince
-The Police

And then it gradually grew into heavier stuff/cheesy hair metal with the help of Night Ranger and Asia.

When I was a good bit younger I liked the Spice Girls, Pink, S Club 7.. Just straightforward, mainstream pop really. Then I moved completely off them and into a love of Eminem and the likes. From there I went onto Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, Slipknot, etc etc.. Then I heard In Flames and Machine Head and then started getting further into metal with the help of one particular show on a pirate radio station set up here in Cork. From my earlier days, the only artist I still like is Eminem..

First, it was the mighty Choochoo Boogaloo and other such stuff. Then Kiss, then Savatage, then Metallica. I still was not lost, though! No, I held out until just the past few years and I discovered all sorts of places to hang out on the intarwebz which then sucked me into the bowels of the metal.

S Club 7....I think I'm still in love with Hannah.
