I've tried liking this band for ages now, and for some reason they just don't seem to stand out to me as anything special. I even took the trouble to buy blood mountain, yet I still just can't get a grip on it. Loads of things point to the fact that it's the kind of cd I'm supposed to like because of the music that I like, but ugh. Is there something i'm missing? is there a different album of theirs I should listen to? I really want to see what's so special about them compared to most other bands, can anyone help.

The only advice I can give is if you don't like it, don't try to force yourself to like it.

...And if you don't like Blood Mountain, chances are you won't like Leviathan much, either.

maybe. but loads of people like these guys, and these are the kind of people that like ALL the different kinds of music that I do (and I just tried to hit backspace when there was a cd on my keybpard blocking it, that was weird =|)

I like Mastodon, but definitely nowhere near as much as evveryone else does. i remember buying Blood Mountain the day it came out because I was pikcing up Amputechture and saw it for 10$, listening to it 2-3 times, then seeing it getting ridiculously high ratings and now topping lots of magazine's year end lists and I was just like wtf???

Their singers are really lame, they should go instrumental and make Zebulon Pike or Keelhaul style music. That would be cool.

Whenever I've heard their music, it has always sounded lazy in some way. And not in a nice Stoner Rock way.

at least there are people that feel the same way. but as I stated, it just feels like there's nothing to it.

When they were first recommended to me, I didn't see what the fuss was about. Then it just clicked for me one day. Just something works, I can't tell you exactly what, the rhythm section's pretty good.

i like Mastodon but i'm not a diehard fan of'em,there are so many other bands i'd rather listen to than them

I didn't like Leviathan at all, but thought I'd give them one more chance and, to my great surprise, I really enjoyed Blood Mountain. Like junkmonkey I'm far from a die-hard fan, just an occasional listener.

Go with fullgore's advice: just listen to something else!

I used to think they were okay until I saw them Live, then I was blown away. Ever since then I cant get enough.
