I love my 15" Powerbook. I really do.
Look what Steve Jobs went and did:

Intel iMacs too.....

Ah yes, I've been following Macworld very closely...I will be in the market to be buying a laptop late spring...hopefully by then we'll have the 17" MacBooks out.
Though I've read that something had to be excluded from Jobs' keynote speech at the last moment...which means we can be expecting some new stuff (word has it it will be "cooler, much cooler" than the MacBooks).

Won't be PowerMacs, they've only just put out the Quad Cores. Won't do iBooks yet.
A PDA? Cellphone?

Well, a lot of people think it's a cellphone. Apparently Apple had the phrase "Mobile Me" trademarked...so who knows.
There's been some talk about an iPod Boombox, though I hope not...it doesn't sound like a very good idea.

The only selling point to macs for me is OSX. Their hardware has always been inferior and this time is no exception either, AMD has been cleaning Intel's clock for at least 3 years now. This whole 4X faster marketing shpiel is admitting that they were technologically sub-par years ago.
On the plus side Apple has never appealed to me because of their speed. It's the whole not Microsoft and still thriving aspect that appeals to me. I personally cant wait for an Intel Mac Mini or if they port OSX to work on any hardware which probably aint gonna happen.

I'm a mac convert, originally I was used a PC all the time and thought mac guys were stupid becuase they couldn't fix their own computers. I had mine torn apart all the time modding and fixing stuff. Then I bought a G5 because all the studios work on mac's so I had to play nice. Now I love it and realized the reason mac guys can't fix their stuff is because it just works and you don't have to fix it. Plus there are no virus's that's worth it alone.
I'm going to trade my 2gig G5 for one a Macbook when the speed bumped Rev b's come out. I'm sick of hauling this thing around all the time for work. I agree that the old powerbooks were seriously underpowered for the price.

It's good that you're waiting for a Rev. B.

Well, the PowerPC has always been superior to Pentium processors. But now Intel has come out with the Core Duo (or is it Duo Core?) processors, which are quite a bit faster than anything IBM had slated.
So basically, you're silly, except about AMD vs. Intel.

The only main reasons for the switch to Intel were that Intel could provide better chips for each speedbump and heat issues.

Yeah, and they're a lot more power efficient...which is great for laptops.

I hate Apple with a Passion.
Apple always tries to be different. Usually, I like that attitude and I try to be "different" in real life. But not to the point where I'm a pain in the ass for others.
I do realize that my main point of criticism is also their strongest point. They are very picky on what hardware will work and what won't work with their Macs. For a Windows PC, everything works. You might have to go through some trouble, but eventually you can get everything to work. As for a Mac, you have to check on every mouse if it's Mac compatible or not. (And yes, if it works, it works like a dream).
Yes, for that same mouse that got a second (second!!! That means 2 buttons!) like a year ago.
Also, no games for Mac (well, barely). I know this isn't totally Apples fault, but it definately costs them a lot of users.
So I guess Macs will always be for the graphic/music/video artist. They are more stable when working with large files and heavy CPU/mem loads.
Firewire. Why couldn't they just co-operate in the USB standard? Apple had to come with it's own way of connecting periphals to the computer. And they clearly lost the battle: every Mac has USB ports, while Firewire ports on a PC are very very rare.
.MOV. Why can't this be an open standard, like every other video format (except RealVideo)? Now I have to install frikking QuickTime for that single MOV file I want to see each year.
iPod. Just because everyone has one and they're so expensive. And butt-ugly IMO.
And their website just made my browser crash, meaning I had to re-type this entire post. That doesn't help
As for Intel, they used to be very power-inefficient (at least the desktop-Pentiums). All because of Intels GHz powertalk. "The more GHz/MHZ, the better, the faster!" while that's utter bullshit. They've changed their attitude lately, because they reached the limit of clockspeeds.
Their new generation of processors, succeeding the Pentium (but it won't be named Pentium) will be based on the Pentium Mobile core, which is a lot more efficient.
