Are we allowed to make politics threads?

As far as I can see the forum rules state clearly that you can discuss ANYTHING so long as you stay correct. So surely we should be allowed to make a politics thread/section?

Also.... I would of asked this in a suggestions section.... but unless I'm blind or dumb I couldn't find one?

So can I suggest that we have a suggestions section for users to put their suggestions too! Thanks.

I would find life boring if I couldn't find someone to disagree with, someone without a strong opinion of their own. Someone to challenge the mind!

I can't prevent you or anyone from making new threads about whatever, but when the majority of them spiral out of control into flame wars then we'll take action. Healthy debates, friendly discussion, constructive criticism, whatever you want to call it is fine, but experience tells us controversial topics (like the ones I mentioned in the Youtube-thread) rarely make it past 3 pages. If that doesn't suit you all the time.. well, we're not forcing you to be here all the time.

Feel free to continue to challenge our forum rules, or society's rules for that matter. In either situation there are systems in place to handle accordingly.

Why not start a Dev thread over at the BNP forum and see how well that goes?

I would like to make more topics, but if the mods are just going to lock them because people are freaking out, then what is the point. The only people who will do the flaming or whatever is themselves, rest assured it is almost impossible for me to become unstable, so I don't see why my threads should suffer because of other peoples reactions.

The same reason I discuss politics at any forum, because I think it's cool, interesting, and important. And a lot of other forums already have sections devoted to those specific subjects where people come and argue and debate, and so long as people aren't just insulting each other constantly... the debate usually rages no matter how controversial.

Besides, this is not just any musicians forum is it? This is hevy devy, I would have thought it would have more thinking-peoples-people here having such debates already.

I'm only going to say this once for you.....in case you haven't sussed out yet, I will always ignore nonsense wind-ups. So if you don't have anything constructive to add, you will literally be wasting your time and life trying to commune with me.

But out of interest, I'm sure the BNP forum would more than allow DTP threads, although I couldn't say for sure as I'm not a member.

Listen, this is a pretty laid back and easy-going forum and the vast majority of people who post here like the place to remain jovial and light-hearted and to keep the srs internet debates elsewhere so people don't start taking chunks out of each other. It's been that way for years and I strongly doubt a one-person crusade is gonna change that. That may disappoint you, and I'm sure some people think it's detrimental to this forum, but it's just the way this place works, really.

These debates and controversial discussions inevitably get heated when people get passionate about it, stupid shit is written and people overreact or get offended and people get banned and yada yada yada. And at the end of the day, as Lolliklauer said, this is a forum about a musician. The General Discussion and all that are just sides, really. I would also think that, having been on countless other band/musician forums and lots of more generalised forums in the past, this is one of the few where pretty much everyone gets along with everyone else. Most people are here to chat about how much they like Dev in the forums where that's done and then just to have a laugh in the other forums, and what the hell is so wrong with that? It's a big internet, there are plenty of other places and forums for more serious debates.


That quote-by-quote response layout is eerily similar to another.. eh... controversial... former poster as well.

I've found that discussing politics on an internet forum that is not specifically about politics will always lead to bad posts, insults, flame-wars etc...
This place is just not suited for that, if you ask me.

Feel free to discuss something that others could possibly find remotely relevant, instead of just yourself.

If a thread derails into flaming we stop it, because that's what we don't want here. If one person seems to spark the flaming time and time again, we will take action to stop that person from doing so. It might not be you in the threads you start, but you can't deny that you've sparked pretty fierce reactions (and not the good kind).

Like I said, I can't stop you from making new threads about whatever, I'm just informing you about possible consequences. So think before you post, and perhaps re-think where post it. You already admit to being a member on other forums as well, so if you're very eager to discuss something that you think won't go down well here, then simply start the discussion elsewhere. I'm not looking to ban you, but if the situation dictates such an action I'll do it.

The BNP are so desperate for members thesedays they would probably allow anything to be honest.

You say you want to talk about politics; you say you have been prevented from talking about politics. I haven't seen you talk about politics at all, only espouse racist, seclusionist opinions.

Racism is Prejudice.

I am a Socialist. "The Internationale wil be the human race" That is a political position. It is based on concepts about wealth distribution and freedom.

"Everything is the fault of Wogs, Pakis and Polacks" is not a political position. It is a prejudice, based on what colour people are or where they originated.

Understood @ leech and Swerve but, a little bit too cosy and unrealistic don't you think? After all, when it comes to the crunch most people would not get along with each other about everything. And it reflects modern society in general, this idea that we all have to agree on everything to get along or else we can't be friends, humbug.

And I, like many others think that there are some subjects of such importance, that any chance to discuss them is a good chance. Devin fans are smart people I think, and the general section of said forum seems pretty good place to chat about it. Do I get any assurance that If I don't personally do any flaming I can remain after the fallout?

Apparently this is a little utopia in the vast landscape that is the internet where people choose to let go of the pesky srs bsns we're confronted with every day that would otherwise divide everyone. I encounter enough shit in my daily life, enough that I don't need to continue discussing about it during my evenings online.

I'm also a mod here though, so I need to keep my personal preference out of the equation somewhat, so I'm not going to downright forbid you to make a thread on politics. I'm also not going to repeat what I already said on using your own judgement when you decide what to post. Just mentally copy-paste that stuff here.

And no, you'll get no assurance. Kindling a flame and then just watching the rainforest burn still makes you a firestarter. Can't blame the trees for being made out of flammable material. Excuse the what is no doubt a lousy analogy, I'm Dutch.
