Everything else. Eventually start with Addicted and Ki, then the classics: Ocean Machine, Terria, Infinity, Physicist, Accelerated Evolution, Ziltoid, Synchestra. Plus City and Alien, if you are interested.
Depends on what you liked about Deconstruction and Ghost.

I say download the lot and listen to them from beginning to end!
Then buy them when you can afford them

OK I may wait for the box set to come out. Also I forgot to mention I also have the SYL compilation.
@ Faffy - I don't beleive in stealing music. Thats whats killing the music industry. I want to keep Devin in business not put him out of it.

Unless there's some legit free stuff out there that is.

Well in my opinion it's 'NOT BUYING' music that kills the industry, and I absolutely encourage buying music.

But let's not start the old downloading-debate AGAIN, as it's too old and shit.
If you're going to buy only one album, I'd say Synchestra. However the general consensus seems to be that terria and ocean machine are the best ones to start with.
Also, you could download the free and legal best-of inside out made.

The good thing is that you can't do anything wrong by just buying any other of the "regular" albums (except for Hummer, Devlab, Demos...), because they are all great. And all of them are quite different, which explains why every fan will suggest you another one to start with. Based on my own experience i think that most people will suggest the first Devin-record they listened to, because often the first one did the most impact.

I would say that you should have a read
through the forums and also read some reviews, then pick the album that speaks to you most.
What I think is more important is to really, really listen. Take your time, find a comfy spot or go for a walk and give it your undivided attention. And give it a bunch more listens after that because, more than any other muso I know, Dev will reward you with layers within layers.

OCEAN MACHINE.
you'll shit your pants. so many times.
terria is a close second in my book as well, but i'm convinced that OM is the single greatest album in the history of music.
have you heard strapping young lad yet? if not, the obvious choice is city. i'm personally fond of heavy as a really heavy thing, but it's weird as fuck and... how you say.... rough around the edges. it's not top quality SYL, but it's just so out there. more overly industrial than any of their other releases.

I too think that OM is the greatest album I have ever heard. It does things to my mind that no other album can match. So in that sense, if you only ever get one more album, make it Ocean Machine.

nothing exciting to add here: Terria, as usual.

i've probably listened to it more than all my other favorite albums combined at this point. it never gets old, it never loses it's impact, i'm still hearing new sounds in it. i was hearing hide nowhere while i was half asleep the other night and i heard more vocal layers through the whole thing. wtf, man? it's like a bottomless pit of sound.
i'm a sucker for voices and dev's is in my top 3 favorites. OM is spectacular for his voice alone because he could clearly sing like a motherfucker and has a great range, but it's not as polished as he got in recent years. i absolutely love the raw edge to it because i love both technically awesome vocalists AND unrestrained, visceral ones. best of both worlds, yo.
going back to the original post for a minute, ki might be a good next move too. it's a weird middle ground between ghost and decon it took me a while to get it, but when i did, damn.

Buy all albums from Strapping Young Lad, and the DTB and DTP in the same years.
First listen the first album of SYL and then DTB and listen to the differences.
Nice is to listen to Alien and then Synchestra.
You will feel the urge from Devin to kill Syl and go on with DTP.
Great album by the way.
I wait for the big package of Devin to come out in June, and then I have all 5 albums at once , with great live coverages too.
I never download by the way.
I just like booklets and stuff...
Can't help it.

Work your way backward in time but forward from Ocean Machine. If that makes sense.
