HDF London Meetup - November 12th, 2011 (change of venue)

HEY GANG!

So after much discussion and spirited shouting/fencing matches, we've determined that the semi-official HDF hangout is going to occur as follows:

The Garage
20 Higbury Corner, N5 1RG
London, United Kingdom

When?

After the performance of Deconstruction by some bald guy and some hairy dudes on November 12th, 2011 at about 11 until 4 or we move the party elsewhere.

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=278139505552604 for a £4 cover charge

Be there or be fetid. Or be there and fetid.

P.S.
I won't be able to attend to this topic, as I will be attending a sweat-lodge retreat in the middle of the Mojave Desert for the next 11 days or so, so if plans change or more details are needed, I'm leaving you in the capable hands of Swervedriver, and the others.

Wunderbar! Should be pretty cool, wouldn't have to go far if we decided to move onto somewhere else

I'm not so sure the Fox is a good idea because the bouncer can be a massive c*nt and some people might not get in. We could just use it as a meeting point and see how things go.

How come? Is he just a twat generally or does he refuse entry without ID (as he should) or just when the place is getting pretty full?

Singles out people for no apparent reason in groups and doesn't let them in for example. I've heard a bunch of stories, e.g. "I don't like you clothes"

Not saying we shouldn't try, just something to bear in mind.

Ahh, s'alright. Unless there's a set dress code that's in writing and in public view, he can't legally enforce that so if he starts there's ways round it. I'm a fully qualified door superviser (yeah, you need qualifications and licensing for it nowadays, innit) so I'll have his badge number and let the SIA sort him out if he is a first-class knobhead before we move onto another bar.

There's an 'AfterShow Party' being held at The Garage on the 12th after the gig...Not sure if that means Dev will definitely be there but I'd imagine he is.

Sorry if this has already been addressed, I'm barely on the forums! Here's the link to the event http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=278139505552604

Aside from that ^ fact about Dev's gig not actually be in the Relentless Garage anymore, I thought the objective was to keep it in walking distance and keep it to somewhere where the people going can actually chat? The Garage is 50 minutes to an hour of a walk away from the ULU or nearly a half an hour if you want to cramp people onto public transport, plus it's a metal club so it'll be loud as fuck so nobody will be able to hear anything and it's the one year anniversary of that particular club night so it's obviously going to be absolutely jammers. If Dev's gig runs in any way late beyond 11 or half 11 as well people will get caught because you have to be there before midnight to get in on the cheap, and the Garage's own site doesn't actually mention anything about it being DEVON TOWNSEND's aftershow.

I wish I knew why the post button is gone for me in this thread. :P

Anyway... I hope that event is official and not something someone just came up with to squeeze money out of an event they have nothing to do with.
If it has nothing to do with Dev, I'm going to have to side with Mark on this. It's far away, noisy and uh... I just want to hang with you guise somewhere I can hear your pretty voices and see your epic faces. :D

Ugh, he's right.
And I hate it when the Irish are right.

I'm not 100% comfy with this idea in all honesty, in light of this I suggest we stick to the original plan.
Sorry to be the party pooper/awkward git.

EDIT: Someone ask Dev or Mike St-Jean if this is confirmed. All sounds pretty unprofessional to me.

Agreed, I'm not really sold on the idea of travelling more to get to somewhere that's probably inferior to the original plan (never been to either places, so just going on what others have said).

Things I don't like:
- If this is completely unrelated to Dev
- That this is quite far away
- Loud and not an ideal place to socialize
- Not even free entrance

What I suggest:
- Meeting up at the venue and find the nearest best pub.

Srsly... google maps "pubs near University of London Union"... There are quite a few to choose from.
I think Intrepid Fox is a bit too loud, crowded and dark too. But I really don't want to be the party pooper here... all though I am. :D
I really just want this to be GOOD.

BASK IN MY CORRECTNESS. :luigi:

In all seriousness though, while I will stand by my criticisms of the idea, if Dev really is doing a DJ set there it might well be worth the trip out. As Stephies said, somebody needs to twitter dat boy and extract some answers! If he's not doing anything there and it's just a regular club night it'd probably be better just to congregate outside the ULU, possibly kidnap Devin, and then wander about a bit till we stumble across a nice looking place to have a drink. There is quite a few pubs in the area so there shouldn't be any problems with numbers of options, hopefully.
