What are your opinions on conspiracy theories? Before posting a convenient tinfoil hat image or whatever, consider that some theories that were conspiracies a long time ago have later been proven to be fact.. So talk about anything relevant that is interesting you right now. I'll give some quick summaries on my opinions on some popular theories.

I think 2012 Armageddon scenarios are partially sensationalized by people who are eager for an Armageddon prophecy to be fulfilled (the end date always seems to change to a later point when it doesn't happen) and perpetuated by opportunists who see a dollar in people who will believe in it. Sure there have been some major earthquakes and disasters in the past decade, but recorded history shows that there are ebbs and flows of disasters and that they're not really out of the ordinary. Just my opinion on 2012.

As for aliens, there is definite archaeological evidence to suggest that aliens were here before many people believed civilization even existed. Based on witness accounts from ex-military personnel and government officials I'd say we have also been visited by aliens in recent history. There are a number of reasons for covering this up - hysteria, poor handling of interactions with aliens, information and technology taken from alien visitors including reverse engineering of their crafts.

Paul McCartney is dead! I'm pretty sure it was an inside joke for the band. There are tons of lyrical references to the supposed accident that took place as well as "clues" on the album covers. Unless they found an exact doppelganger for Paul McCartney (literally mirror image) or a shape shifter then it's just sensationalized bs.

NWO, Illuminati, freemasonry, banking cartel.. this is where things get interesting. I'd like to see what people have to say in regards to this.

This is as appropriate of a place as any to discuss this sort of thing, so thanks for doing this in the general discussion and cutting down on the condescending language.

As far as conspiracies go, as far as I'm concerned, people like to think they're smart enough to pull off these elaborate plots, but I just sincerely have too much cynicism invested in the fact that humans (including myself) are fundamentally retarded with regards to intelligence, emotional intelligence and common sense. There are elites who get special favors, but I always believed that was largely due to a constant build of a system already established, not really criminal masterminds. Where we run into trouble is our inability to shake these general ideologies and make a change. For example, with the banking crisis, and how the people of America got fleeced by these bigwigs. I don't think it's because they were particularly intelligent or discrete, in fact they did everything righteously out in the open. It's a matter of apathy towards being consistently reamed, and how much as human beings we like to play the blame game towards others rather than looking at ourselves. I don't mean this in a let's rise up and form a resistance kind of way, but rather, generations of apathy have created a frankenstein society so far removed from actual reality that the best we can do is try to cope and slap post-modern band-aids on everything.

Or the 5 jew bankers are actually velociraptors with magic stones from space to give them dominion over all.

I agree with the boy. It's like with Freemasons, there's loads of conspiracy theories about them....my dad's a fairly high up one and believe me, the stories are more exciting than the fact

I'm sorry if you felt that I was speaking down to anyone. I was really just trying to express my thoughts and opinions on some matters that I felt Devin was vaguely referencing to in some of his songs.

In response to working within a system that's already in place, take a look at the differences that occur within the system over a generation. Consider that a system can be modified. Even in recent years.. how has the health care system changed? How many laws have been put in place that violate a constitutional right by placing the label of freedom on it? How has the idea of 'capitalism' (creating a good product in a free market?) creating a prosperous 'economy' (efficient use of resources?) changed? Why are people 'fundamentally retarded'? Although the population is rapidly increasing, there are fewer people with high IQs and many more with average or low IQs.

Consider micro evolution. A person with a very high ratio of high twitch to low twitch muscle fibers will be able to compete in the Olympics as a sprinter. A tall person will be able to play basketball. These are easily observable traits. Most men desire power and wealth and if you are intelligent you might reach that goal. However if you are clever yet lack the trait of empathy you might be willing to do anything to achieve that goal. If you are born into a family like this, you can build upon your predecessors actions. Think about some historical figures that fit this pattern..

Do you really think that there aren't very rich people/groups that don't think politicians should be calling the shots in the world's most powerful nation? Where do you think Obama got his campaign funding from? You do know that the federal reserve since FDR, and therefore American finances, are controlled by the bigwigs? They weren't exactly discrete about the bail out, but the whole derivative system that caused the collapse was basically mathematical nonsense that made money out of nothing (for the bankers and interest and debt for the public) and was designed to confuse and financial officials who were supposed to look into Wall Street. Nobody really made too much of a fuss when banking regulations designed to prevent economic disasters were removed from law until it was too late. It's not just America either.

I don't think it's 5 men in black suits sitting around a table calling all the shots, but I do believe that there are some rich families and groups who control a lot or even most of the flow of wealth, use people as pawns in a game of Risk, and hold little value to the common man's life other than how his existence can create more centralized power for them.

I'm not going to go into too much further detail, after all, I'm basing my opinions and deductions on things I saw primarily on the internet. It would be foolish to think that a lot of the people who supposedly spread truth don't make a living on a target market, or that they themselves aren't being manipulated to spread half truths and basically leave people more confused and afraid than before. Unless you are in a position to make some change, in the end, it's just talk and needlessly spreading fear.

Lol this conversation reminds me of the first episode of South Park - Cartman's Anal Probe. The scientist starts taking random words, making a connection to another word and then suddenly he figures out what's going on.

Yeahhh.. I'm not saying DT writes exclusively about conspiracy theories, but I think he has some interest in the unknown.. Because someone is a musician and has some exposure, it doesn't make their thoughts and opinions more valid than the average joe, but I think it's in creative people's nature to question and philosophize.. for some artists it's their career and they have time to be free thinkers... I think you read the first line and lost interest.

My opinion on conspiracies? To quote a certain someone: it's all bullshit. And if in some way it was true... so what? My life is in no way influenced by some supposed rich families governing the world. I have more direct worries to spend my time on rather than drive myself up the walls with paranoia and read every conspiracy website online, fretting about what possible injustices might have been secretively devised by some 'bigwigs'. Of course there's a lot of sensation involved with such wild theories, hence why they're quite popular: they're exciting stories to tell, and there's money to be made out of exciting stories; the truth is usually more boring.


By the way _oppuld, shouldn't you be more careful with what you're throwing out here in the open? You-know-who might not appreciate your attempts to expose them and may search for ways to silence you. Every strange light in the night sky, every approaching car, everyone who looks at you just a little too long could be their agents coming for you. Beware.

I agree entirely with the latter part. I wouldn't say conspiracy theories are bullshit, they're are just sensationalized and a mess of opinion, facts, fiction, half-truths.. and you're left to decide for yourself what should be whittled away down to what is the most believable to you. There's a reason conspiracy is theory and not fact. Either there is no fact beneath the fiction or it's been carefully covered up because you aren't supposed to know (maybe even for your own good )

I thought it would make for some interesting discussion. I guess I used some references in the DTP to go off on some tangents about my thoughts. You might say I'm a Juular type "a character that spends his life in penance not out of appreciation for the infinite, but rather the need to be right". Many of you probably know better of Devin's actual views than a guy who just listens to his music and lyrics and makes connections to external things.

I guess it's better not to discuss it. We're not going to solve any mysteries and possibly scare some people who are otherwise unaware of these theories.

IMO, conspiracy theories are a way for people who are disappointed with the truth to feel better about themselves. Hearing that Michael Jackson was a morphine addict ruins the image people had of him, and so all of a sudden the government come into it and give 'the people' a reason for indignation.

Any controversial event is going to have alternative views. Perhaps some are based in reality, I don't know.

Harold Holt was obviously taken by a Chinese submarine, because the public felt bad about having a leader with problems.
AIDS is a virus developed by the government to control population and wipe out homosexuality. The fear was just a reflection of the attitudes of the time.
The US have a space fleet to fight an intergalactic war and WE are not being told! It's an outrage!

Anyway, to make a long story even longer, conspiracy theories are born out of a disappointment that WE (what a nebulous concept) are being lied to.

I think it's a bit arrogant to dismiss ALL conspiracy theories as bs. It's sort of like someone who wasn't raised in a religious family to say definitively that there is no god. You could say that a conspiracy theory is an alternate theory without sufficient proof to give it credibility. The earth, of course, was once flat because that was the occam's razor explanation of the times.

Of course a lot of conspiracy theories are bullshit. The movie Pi was about a man who was obsessed with finding mathematical patterns in the stock market and gets raveled in a big conspiracy. At one point in the movie, the main character's mentor says to him "If you are looking for a pattern, you will find it in everything". At the end of the movie the possibility is presented that the character was crazy all along.

Kudos to you. The whole term 'conspiracy theory' bugs me alot. Is it such an impossible thought to think that rich and powerful people might form a plan? For example lightbulbs or just about any other product are made weak so they'll break more often and you will spend more money on them. Is this a conspiracy theory? Have you noticed how the thickness of tinfoil has decreased 66,6% during the last 7 years?
