I said the same thing yesterday talking to people about the game. It didn't keep the US from winning their games despite their disallowed goals. Bottom line is...Germany scored 4 times, England didn't, heh. The game against Argentina should be an über-tough game for them though. I can already see myself, all depressed on Saturday

I'm looking forward to Brazil vs. Chile today and Portugal vs. Spain tomorrow. Should be very entertaining games!

Yeah, but Argentina has an opportunistic quality to them that Germany should be able to deter well. They're both good sides, and I think it's anything but clear cut. Even if Germany loses on Saturday, though, they're a very young team and will at least have a good chance in 4 years (haha).

Looking forward to those games as well, and then some really epic quarter-final matches!

Chile - Brazil better be the most sasstastic thing I've ever seen.

After Dunkelheit, of course. <3

Paraguay vs. Japan wasn't the most entertaining game ever, that is for sure! Portugal vs. Spain should be more fun (I hope)

Yeah, but poor Japan. Anyway, I hope the Iberian match is good--I'll be watching it late tonight after work!

That Spain and Portugal game had to be disappointment of the tournament for me. I thought it was going to be an absolutely brilliant contest but it actually panned out pretty badly. Portugal just had nothing in the final third of the pitch to even remotely worry Spain. Felt really bad for the Portuguese keeper Eduardo. The one goal he let in all tournament was the one that sends them out...

So 7 of the 8 group-toppers head into the Quarters... Only the US failed in that regard. Should be some very interesting matches to come, and I still don't think there's one clear favourite by any stretch of the imagination.

I dunno man, not to discount anyone else, but Brazil looks fucking ridiculous. That tie with Portugal in group play was because they had nothing to worry about. They honestly look like they've been pacing themselves with occasional flexing of their talent muscles that literally look miles ahead of everyone else. I accept that I'm probably not as critical or as knowledgeable as most of you folks in the international community, but they're the only team I've seen for the entire tournament looking as if they're a cut above everyone else. I will say, however, the field outside of maybe Paraguay looks quite strong, and I obviously don't count out the Dutch... I'm just not betting on them.

At this point I figure it's Brazil against the winner of Argentina vs. Germany in the final.

Feel free to humble me, I'm far from an authority on the sport.

EDIT: Also, I do not get the bitching about Europe seemingly not coming to play in the tournament. It seems like most commentators believe that the French, the Italians, and the English are the only teams that matter. It's pretty obvious that the French ship sailed (and with their behavior this tournament and the circumstances in which they even qualified, it is not going gracefully), and that the Italian style of play doesn't always work, and that the English team seems to be not unlike USA basketball as of late, a team of all-stars that can't quite play together. However, Spain, Netherlands, and Germany are all in quarters, so 3/8 shouldn't mean that the European star has fallen very far...

The Dutch have done it! Brazil really flew off the handle there--an own goal, a stupid red, and lots of whining. You ask me, Holland deserved it, and I'm betting we'll see them in the final. :D

Yay NL! It was tied when I left the house for work. On the downside, I can't laugh at Geert yet.

Poor, poor Ghana... My god. That final few seconds was utter insanity... Feel so bad for Gyan. He's been absolutely brilliant all tournament and was clearly inconsolable at the end.

Brazil getting knocked out was excellent. Delighted for the Netherlands, and they could be huge contenders to win the whole thing now. I think they'll beat Uruguay without much difficulty and then it depends on who they get in the final.

Yeah, I really think that PK in the last minutes of extra time broke him. I wish Ghana had won it; they were the better team, and they deserved the win. It's just too bad it worked out as it did.

Regardless, I hope the Netherlands will make short work of Uruguay.
