WHAT A GOAL!

Is that the first free kick goal of the tournament? I think it is... And I don't think there'll be one to beat it. Cristiano Ronaldo would've been proud of Honda for that one... My god...

Edit: ANOTHER ONE! This time from Endo. That's two free kicks of absolutely phenomenal quality from Japan. Fucking fantastc. :D

Those two goals were awesome. 2nd probably being better with the first perhaps mostly due to Sorensen's mistake moving left slightly, but still an amazing goal. The placement/curl of the 2nd was absolutely sensational. I think the mistake that Sorensen made where he jumped to catch the long ball coming in but messed up a bit causing it to (luckily) deflect off of the framework would've been even worse than Robert Green's spill if it had gone in. He had all the time in the world to get ready to catch it, Green's ball was shot at him with pace from reasonably close range.

Unlucky for Robben in the Netherlands game too. I've been looking forward to seeing him play, and so nearly scored with a classic Robben beauty from outside the box. Him and Messi pull them off soooo well.

Kinda sad to see Cameroon go out with 3 losses. I think they've played generally better than other teams in the tournament that have wins/draws under their belt.

I think one of the Koreas score one a few days ago? Not sure though.

So yeah we played shit again but we won again. And with France and Italy out, England and Germany up against each other and then Argentina, we may actually have a chance to win this now.

Nigeria scored from a free kick I think, but it was one of those 'not-particularly-aimed-straight-for-goal-but-keeper-not-diving-expecting-ball-to-come-off-someones-head-as-originally-intended-and-accidently-letting-it-run-straight-through-into-back-of-net" type goals.

I thought Portugal - Brazil would play out the game of the tournament so far... Got that pretty wrong there. :?

Tonight'll be interesting to see if Spain can survive. The European juggernauts are falling pretty swiftly this year, but surely Spain can't go the same way as Italy... Surely...

Edit: Not looking great for Chile. If they don't score and the Swiss even win just 1-0 against Honduras, Chile will go from being first in the group to finishing third. The red card was unlucky, to be honest, but to have to claw back the Spanish when behind and down to 10 men is probably a task too great. They really need to calm the fuck down as well. The tackling is insane.

Edit, Pt. II: Best possible start to the second half there! Talk about an effective substitution by the Chilean coach. We've got a game now. :D

Edit, Pt. III: Iberian showdown in the Last 16. Schmexy.

Big Names in "Branch 1" of the Knockout Tree:
Brazil
Netherlands

Big Names in "Branch 2" of the Knockout Tree:
Argentina
Germany
England
Spain
Portugal (maybe not a big name, but they are to England)

Oh well. If England are gonna win it, I'd much rather win it under the hardest circumstances possible.

Argentina vs. Mexico happened in the 2006 world cup last 16 stage too. 2-1 to Argentina after extra time. Makes that game a little more exciting for me, cool little bits of recent history/rivalry.

Spain vs. Portugal, cool rivalry there.

I'd quite like England vs. Portugal in the semi-final, where England win of course, as a little bit of redemption for the last world cup.

Feel bad for South Korea... They put up one hell of a fight there.

I think I'll be shouting for Ghana tonight, as much as I've been impressed with the US, it'd be great for an African team to get through to the quarters, and if they could finish their chances a little better they could even threaten Uruguay in the next round if they get there.

wow, Ghana made it...awesome! Both the US and Ghana deserved it but I'm glad an African team is still in the game
