Fucking asshole.

I've been following this on the news today while at work. Such an unspeakably horrible incident. The gunman deserves more than just to rot in jail. :(

Insanity is a terrible thing. Insanity with a gun is frightening thing.

Generally speaking I try not to wish ill on others as, really, it only affects me and not them. But were this guy to meet a few persuasive gentlemen of leisure in prison it would not cause me to lose a great deal of sleep.

Well, after 11.5 years together, and knowing that we both hate being the centre of attention, and that we're both children of divorce, which results in lots of combinations of people who do not want to spend time together, my bf and I have decided to get married on our upcoming holiday to western Canada.

We originally thought about not telling folks til we got home, but given that my dad and grandmother live 400 miles away, and it's not the sort of thing you want to tell over the phone, we took the opportunity to tell them while we were staying with him last week and decided it was better to tell everyone now.

Told bf's parents when we saw them yesterday, they were happy!

So over the past couple of years, my sister has known it's what we wanted and has been suggesting it in front of my mum, who has been saying we should.

So we tell my mum and grandma today. Mum says "I'm happy for you" in a really fake tone....grandma sits there playing on the iPod for several minutes before eventually mustering a congratulations. My mum then starts deliberately fishing, asking who we've told, then when she finds out she's the last of the parents, gets a stroppy tone on for the rest of the time were there. We couldn't get out of there soon enough.

Now I should point out there has been some serious s**t between me and my mum in the last year which is more complex than I can begin to explain, but the biggest element was get keeping a major secret from me.

The thing is, if she was upset about not seeing us get married, I could understand it. But it's all because she is pissed off that she wasn't the first to know and can't even think about being happy for us cos she's too busy thinking about herself.

Hasn't exactly made me regret not inviting anyone! Bloody families!

Ugh, families can be hard work sometimes. Sounds like your mum has her own issues that are sadly at the forefront of her mind.

BUT, congratulations! That's fantastic news and I'm very happy for the both of you. Sounds more awesome than un-awesome to me (but I'm married, so I may be biased).
