Yeah, shame. There wasn't much they could do I guess. Download "won" and must've gotten in their first with most cases, plus getting Metallica/Biffy knowing that Soni wouldn't get away with putting them on 2 years in a row. After that, they're only left with bands who are actually touring and not already at DL... which by the looks of it, didn't leave them with much.
Then they had the whole admin problems making them unable to announce until this late on, creating all this anticipation and 'hype' (if you can call it that)... for THIS line up. All in all, a pretty big fail.
I'd happily say last years Sonisphere was my best festival, and one of the most fun weekends I've ever had. Shame this year had to go so wrong.
I just hope Gojira are at Bloodstock too. Maybe Mastodon as well? But I find that harder to imagine. There's also Meshuggah and Aborted (among others) that have had (or will have) new albums out this year that haven't been announced at any of them (yet, I hope).
