Yea, it would keep taxes from going up on normal citizens like us in the future, and it would keep those shitty congressman and senators from getting what they want for the businesses they lobby for.

Not to be a dick, but you should find out what the Vice President does before making such assumptions, besides being second in line they have a much different job than most people think, especially American citizens who know nothing about how their government works. You should also look into some of the thick headed things Biden said during the campaign, completely contradicting things Obama himself said in speeches. Biden is as dumb as Bush, if not worse...Notice how he never gets any kind of news coverage EVER? He has a tendency of saying things that could easily fuck the Obama admin.

Glad someone finally mentioned that. Political correctness is so out of hand. Youre absolutely right, antiyou. The government has gotten to a point where it cant be reversed. The peoples voice has been silenced due to pc and liberal media and crooked politicians.

Would like to say more but i cant really think right now. Just got off working a 10 hour shift and im really tired. Oh and btw, the government has taken an average of $300 from every one of my paychecks so far this year. That hurts ALOT

Did not mean to offend you on that note. Just have a history of running into extremely cocky and douchebag British people on the internet. This forum has shown me otherwise though. But I'm still weary at first.

No offense meant by earlier posts!

McCain is old. It's not an unrealistic prospect that he could have died in office. The thought of Palin as president is seriously scary, the woman is quite clearly as dumb as a box of rocks. We're not even talking Bush dumb here, we're talking "I drank paint every day for 10 years and now I have brain damage" dumb.

I'm not saying this because I'm not a conservative. I've heard many, many American conservatives say the same thing.

As for knowing what the vice president does, it helps when the vice presidential candidate knows this too.

My point is that they should be allowed to be shown on TV. The FCC seems insanely restrictive considering that it comes from the same country as the first amendment.

My point was, that many Americans seem to think that America is a "shining beacon of freedom", more free than anywhere else on the planet. Americans do have some freedoms that people in other countries don't, but on the other hand Americans lack some freedoms that people in other countries have. Being able to exercise your right as an adult to drink alcohol, under the age of 21 for example.

Saying "I don't want to do those things anyway" isn't a counter argument to this.

Some Americans have pretty crazy ideas about other countries. I've seen plenty of Americans say things like "I love America because I wouldn't be able to say this in any other country: <Goes on to say something that you'd be perfectly free to say in any other first-world democracy"

One of the stereotypes going around right now is the "Liberal Media". I do not believe the term should exist. Follow the money trail from each major network and you will soon realize that the media is bi-partisan and only protecting the interests of parent corporations. Liberal or Conservative is irrelevant on a balance sheet.
The scariest thing to me right now is listening to the rhetoric from all of the talking heads about Israel and Iran. I have spent countless hours researching the topic from both angles and while Iran can certainly be a better global citizen, I don't see the urgency in dealing with the member of the "axis of evil" like some in the press and/or gov't obviously do. Near as I can tell, Israel poses much more of a threat to the stability of the region. Of course, one would have to be pretty bold to call Israel on thier shenanigans as you will automatically be deemed an anti-semite. From any report I've watched on American news, I would say the opposite of what they are telling you is likely closer to the truth. In all honesty, with the economy the way it is, I would be shocked if the US doesn't invade Iran in the next six months.

well, maybe everybody just has his own idea of freedom. And I fully agree with what 'The Oid' has said. There's freedoms in some countries that other counties don't have and vice versa. It'll probably always be that way. And how is it possible to call this and that country less free when we probably all don't agree on what 'freedom' is? It would be hard to define and it's probably impossible to define it because certainly not everybody would agree with just one definition. Do I live in the greatest country in the world or the most free country in the world? I don't care because I'm feeling free enough.

Yeah, I can't take the whole "Liberal Media" thing seriously, given that a lot of people who use the term think that anything that disagrees with their view is automatically "liberal", and an example of liberal bias even if that thing happens to be cold-hard fact.

e.g. Evolution

Conservapedia and Fox News are the best example of this phenomenon

I absolutely agree about the FCC, they are over stepping every Constitutional boundary put forth by the First Amendment.

Most teens here in America have rough upbringings with parents who just dont care about them and expect them to take care of themselves as soon as they can walk. The drinking age should stay in my opinion, far too many kids now are irresponsible enough with it being illegal to obtain it under the age of 21. Granted, lowering the drinking age COULD end up solving some of this irresponsibility, but at the same time it could just as well increase the current problems.

As for the liberal media, it's been deemed that due to the overwhelming bias by most news stations. Make fun of Fox news all you want, at least they offer a different view than CNN.

I dont even watch the news anymore because of the incredible bias on both sides. It's very rare to see someone on TV lay it right down the middle with partisan politics. For a while I was watching CNN's Headline News because they seemed a little less biased, but that ended around election time when they basically started trashing McCain and praising how great Obama was.

The media has lost its place in all matters. It was made to report what is actually happening with no bias, but as time went on we see where it has lead, with different stations showing a bias to one party. And it is the parent company's doing for sure.

Anyone who doesn't realize that "Freedom of Speech" is the right to express your opinions publicly, such as on TV or on radio. And with congress(Pelosi again...) wanting to bring back the Fairness doctrine, it will completely destroy anyone's right to say their side on TV and radio.

Done ranting for now, music time.

Yes i call it "liberal media" not because it opposes what i believe, but it is what it is. Except for Fox news, all news channels and newspapers (in my experience) are bias towards the democratic party. To me it doesnt matter what you are labeled, a politician is a freakin politician. i just call it that cause there seems to be alot of liberal propaganda in the media. To be fair there are extremely bias conservative talk shows too. id like the news to just be fair and balanced. Gee what a concept :P

im a bit torn on the fcc thing, cause i do believe people should have the right to show what they want on tv, but at the same time, its probably not the best thing for young kids to see. i personally am tired of every single commercial and show you see having suggestive things in them. i know i sound odd, but id like to see wholesome things on tv, instead of constantly being subjected to smut being shoved down my throat. It just seems like noone has any morals or values anymore. Like Alucard said, if youre horny, go watch porn on the internet. That way if you dont want your kids to see stuff like that, or if you dont want to see it yourself, then you dont have to.

Having the drinking age at 21 is good, but its also yet another form of government control. i know this is very cliche-ish, but you can fight and die for your country, vote, and do everything else as a legal adult at 18, but you cant have a drink. i personally dont drink or condone it in any way, but of course you have the right to do it. It just becomes a problem when it affects others, such as drinking and driving.

well, we do get CNN here too...not just the global stuff but also partly the US broadcasts and I can't say that CNN has been very biased towards the Democrats lately. Not at all actually. Whenever I have watched, and I do watch it quite a bit, they have pretty much ripped the Democrats lately. And I don't mean the FOX news type of 'just rip 'em for the sake of it' ripping but they certainly didn't sound biased towards them lately.

I'm not necessarily saying that a liberal bias doesn't exist, or that this definitely applies to all people who use the term.
I'm just saying that I find it very hard to take the idea seriously, as the vast majority of people I've seen use the term, define "liberal bias" as anything that doesn't pander to their existing opinions, even when their existing opinions are demonstratably wrong.

Personally I'm a fan of the BBC. Of course, like any media source it's has some bias and has to be taken with a pinch of salt, but it's free from corporate influence, and is open about itself. I can't think of many other media sources that will report on stories that paint it in a bad light.

In the UK we solve this by having a "watershed". After 9PM, it's assumed that responsible parents won't be allowing their children to watch TV, and adult programming can be shown.

At the end of the day, the TV does have a change-channel button and an off-switch. No one is being forced to watch anything they disapprove of.
