For some it goes away, for me it stays, but it varies in intensity.
Some night it's so bad I can't sleep, but most of the time I don't notice it.

I have that. Although it seems to be slowly improving since I got custom fit earplugs and started wearing them all the time during gigs, in pubs, or when I'm in a noisy environment.

Sometimes I get a loud, irritating tinnitus for no reason. No loud bangs or anything it just starts and stops after a few seconds. Scares the shit out of me everytime, I could not live with it.

I got those random more intense moments too, really annoying, and usually happens for no apparent reasons.

I have Meniere's Disease which sucks fat, hairy arse.

Like labyrinthitis that you get to keep forever. Fortunately I haven't had a bad attack in a while and it's easing off as I get older.

But that's not the point of this post. I have had permanent tinnitus 24/7 for six or seven years and tbh I don't notice it unless I think about it. The brain can do amazing things! So I hope the tinnitus buggers off for you, but if it doesn't, just know it can be coped with! :D

My wife did that in derby practice too. Was fun for her trying to explain that I did NOT clock her on the chin! Derby people all understood but the people in the office probably think she's in an abusive relationship.

Anyway, it's really cool to see a derby person on the forum!

Bloody hell, thought that said "today" when I first read it - I thought your wife was the toughest human being on earth there so soon after giving birth!

Oh man, that would be something. Something wrong!

She's aiming to get back on skates in the 1st few months of next year. Will be great to see her back, she had a couple of major injuries back to back followed by the baby so she's desperate to get back out there.

Not sure if a real syndrome

Yeah, they thought I had Meniere's because you're not supposed to get Labyrinthitis more than once and I'd had it about 3 times. However, I've not had it properly for a goodly number of years now. Get occasional twinges if I've had a bad cold and my ears are gummed up but that's fairly normal.

Many people, including me, get those sudden, seconds-long, bouts of tinnitus. I remember being told it was caused when blood flow through the inner ear changes suddenly and you 'tune in' to the electrical sound your brain makes.

Thanks for the support, all! I feel like a pussy for complaining now!

EDIT: In even pussier news, I keep forgetting to fill up the hot water bottle my girlfriend gave me, and now I have the coldest toes in all the omniverse.

Hot watter bottles are of grave importance! Stick the kettle on ASAP!
