I don't get excited for GTA games. It's a personal history thing. If I get into them, then the rightful owner of the system moves out when I am really hooked on the storyline. Grabbed San Andreas for PC cheap and discovered my roomie had taken the whole shebang when I was two missions away from the end. Think GTAIV went with the wife around 50% storyline completion.
I miss GTA3 on my PC, modding my car to weigh 10000000kg so everytime I drive into something it flies 200km into the air. Good old times. 10 years ago. Fuck

I seem to be suffering the same problem with Arkham City as I did with Arkham Asylum:
my initial experience with the game was non-stop for an extended period of time. 15 hours in this case, without a break, and one hell of a headache by the time I'd shut my PS3 down. Funny enough, I barely noticed the time spent because I was drawn into the story so much. I checked my progress, and I'm still only 53% through the campaign, taking into account side missions.
Really need to remember to take breaks (or set a timer) the next time I turn it on.

totally enjoyed this old game and been running around the world, trying to find all the phonen numbers and phone bombing people
There are some really frustrating things about it, mainly KILLING STUPID COMPUTER IDIOT BAD GUYS.
THEY REFUSE TO DIE.
I aim for the head, pull the trigger. Guy falls to the ground and I dance past him, only to find out that HE IS STILL ALIVE and very much trying to get me dead.
Again I pull out my guns, smash his face with it, use my demonic arms but they won't do because the guy keeps shooting me and though I, again, aim between the eyes, just can't kill the guy.
Now I just use the arms from behind the corner or get a darkling to do the job.
And I don't think there are too many opportunities to find ammo or guns, so instead of trying to kill one bad guy, I just blow up the lamps and let the dark stuff do the killing.

I guess all this talk about The Darkness was prophetic or something, because The Darkness II is currently on sale on Amazon for $10, so I nabbed it a few days ago (along with the Max Payne 3 and GTA4 Complete bundle that was on sale earlier yesterday). I haven't played the first one, although I really should pick it up one of these days (No PC port makes me a sad panda). So far I'm kinda enjoying it. Although it's pretty linear, and short from what I've heard, the whole added dynamics using The Darkness are fun, and it's the only game that a player can say "I've gotta eat that guy's heart while shooting two pistols and using a taxi cab door as a shield" about.
More than that, however, I've been playing more Saints Row: The Third, finishing up the game and cleaning up all loose ends. I intend to download a campaign replay mod so I can do a second runthrough to experience the game's great writing and style again, as well as choose all the other choices I didn't in the first playthrough. I cannot stress enough how perfect that game is.
I've only played the first five minutes or so of GTA4. I'd be lying if I said that I was trying to play the game with a completely open-mind, because after playing the aforementioned Saints Row: The Third for 60-some odd hours, GTA4 just feels boring as hell by default. I know it's probably a great game on its own merits, but it just doesn't feel fun if I can't kill pedestrians with a giant wobbly dildobat or go tank skydiving. It also runs at a barely-playable FPS on lowest settings. I'm not sure if it's extraordinarily poor optimization, or the combination of both Steam and Games For Windows Live running on the game (a major pet peeve of mine, ONE SERVICE IS ENOUGH DAMNIT), but I should definitely be able to run the game better than I can. I mostly got the bundle for Max Payne 3 at half-price, though, so GTA4 and the two addons are more like freebies that I don't have to feel guilty about buying.
Max Payne 3 held my interest much better. Being a longtime fan of the series, the game still manages to keep that old-school-ish feel while introducing the generic present-gen devices like gun zoom and a cover system. I can tell that a lot of the game is focused on fan service, because there's plenty of options to tweak the game to make it almost a seamless sequel that feels like it was released the same time as the first two (albeit with graphics lightyears beyond its predecessors). Max Payne 3, thankfully, lacks GFWL, and, maybe as a result, runs pretty well. Just to clarify: A game from 2012 runs better on mid-range settings than a game from 2008 runs on lowest settings. What the hell, Rockstar.

Okay, I played the Leviathan DLC for Mass Effect 3 and it sucked....
....NOT. It's excellent. If you think that the Shadow Broker DLC has always been the best ME DLC up untill this week then yes, you're right....it 'has been' because the Leviathan DLC kicks the Shadow Broker DLC off its throne. I'll go into detail here in a bit but let me tell my fellow ME fans on here one thing. This is the first ME story DLC that is absolutely 'essential'. It adds a lot more legitimacy to ME3's much critisized ending and believe me, you'd be stupid not to download this one. Now many will probably say that it should have been part of the game in the first place but believe me, it's worth the extra dough.
