Agreed. France's display this WC was all around childish and disgraceful. I'm glad RSA got the win to go out on. I secretly wish that they had bumped past Mexico, though. :P

EphelDuath666 wrote:Germany vs. Ghana....I don't know. Germany has to play very carefully since there's quite a few German players with yellow cards. And apparently the ref for their game is a pretty controlversial one who has been banned before and accused of cheating. :? Not sure how this will work out for Germany but in this WC nothing's surprising, I guess.

I'm nervous about all that as well, but I think the Germans still have a pretty sporting chance at winning the group--their GD is good, so with a win over Ghana they're basically set. Anyway, Germany are a bit richer than Ghana, so the cheating ref will probably call in their favor.

There's so much shit to look forward to here (groups C, D, G, & H; round of 16, including ARG vs. MEX); I think my DVR is going to be filled entirely with WC matches by the July 11. Damn, I love this game.

hope so

nah, whatever the outcome will be it should be fun to watch (or at least I hope so). If nothing else, I hope it will be a good game!

Must've been my crap running commentary of the last USA match. :P

However... England. The not playing as a team thing is indeed the issue. I think the normal club/competition schedule is waaaaaay too crowded during the year and they don't get to play as a national side often enough to gel. They should be like some of the other countries and take off for a month or so prior to something like the World Cup and just train together instead.

Then again the 'men in camel-hair coats' that run football are a bunch of crooks so the money issue is what talks as far as all these competitions go. I'd love to see a lot of the players, when next they are asked, simply refuse to play for the national team because they're too busy at club level. :D That'd be a good uproar!

I'm following the England matches, and NL by association. Otherwise I'm generally uninterested in football anyway.

Given how poor England's last match was, I'll be very surprised if we win this afternoon.

"Without the agony, the ecstasy is not so great" - Gary Lineker.

Nice One England!! Intense stuff. I love a good old do-or-die ending.

Big credit to USA. I had the match streaming online in front of me during the England match. So unlucky with quite a few chances, although Algeria came scarily close hitting the crossbar early on. I quite wanted USA to go through, I'd be more excited to watch their games than Slovenia ones. Now waiting for tonight to find out our opponents in the next game, Group D is wide open.

well, the US team made it after all...and they definitely deserve it. Should have been 2:0, they were ripped off once again. But I guess 1:0 works for them too! heh. It would have been quite tragic if they had not made it because of 2 horrible ref decisions.

and I hope Germany wins today! But if they don't...oh well, it would not be the end of the world. And at least one African team would advance to the finals. But on the other hand Germany vs. England would be fucking intense! The two biggest arch enemies in football, would be a good game!

I watched the USA - Algeria game. Couldn't believe how many chances they missed. I was about ready to lob things at the telly. Felt sorry for them having that goal disallowed earlier in the match.. again. There were indeed a wee bit robbed once more.

However, the goal at the very end was a surprising relief. I think Gary's quote was applicable to the US team as well in this case.

The Dutch announcer said "Team USA are much like the Germans. They don't give up until the final minute" and boy was he right.

You guys wanna know what really sucks?

Devin is playing here in Munich tonight in parallel to the Germany Ghana game!

I got tickets, but really wanna see Germany go ahead (to meet my team England).
I think I will sneak outside at least for the second half - there is a beergarden where they show the game.

You're mad. There's plenty more football left to be played and Dev's only there for a night. If you're not seeing him again before this tour ends then missing a gig over a football game is bonkers.

Oh, and may I also add that if England get that really difficult draw next round and get knocked out, I think I'm gonna get Landon Donovan's face tattood on my face. WHAT A MAN! :D

The Group D games tonight have the potential to be pants-shittingly exciting. I can't wait! :D

You can always go home blindfolded after the show and watch the match online or record it.

Saw on the news last night that one of the members of parliament here in NZ was saying that if we win against Paraguay, he'd put forward a bill to make the day a public holiday, effective immediately.

Doubt it'll happen - but it would be nice :P
