Morning all.

Another newbie here. I knew about SYL for a few years but it was seeing Devin at bloodstock a couple of years ago that made it obvious to me he could do so much more. Now working on buying all the cd's (only missing a few now) and loving them all for totally diferent reasons. I play guitar myself and love Devins unique style. Right up there with Robert Fripp, Frank Zappa, Akerfeldt and the few other players that can be recognised instantly. I play guitar in a band called Inn13 that play a strange version of Doom Metal with lyrics that sound more like South Park meets Norse mythology than your normal occult influenced doom stuff. The singer playing Jazz trumpet has confused a few people as well.

Cheers
Aslan.

Can't wait for the next Dev release. London shows were awesome!

We have some demos of an old lineup (without trumpet) on myspace.com/inn13doom. We recorded three songs with the current lineup this morning and should be putting them up as soon as we've added a couple of guitar solos and vocals.

Hey there,

Been lurking here for a while, posted a bit, thought I'd best say hi in this thread.

Been a Dev fan for quite a while now. Heard the Vai record when it came out and thought it was really different from what Steve Vai had been doing before (in a good way), but Dev wasn''t really on my radar until a few years later when I was on a Wildhearts mailing list, and people were talking about him. Bought Infinity off the back of that and was completely blown away by it. Haven't looked back since.

I like the Strapping side of it, but that's heavier than what I normally listen to - aside from the new four, Terria and Synchestra are the highest points for me, but it's all great.

Saw him live in 2001, 2003 (DTB supporting SYL!) and then umpteen times this year. The London shows were incredible, including catching Dev's cold and going blurglurglurglugl for a week afterwards.

Hey all, huge Devy fan here from the cold Canadian prairies. I actually had to double take when I realized I had never signed up for this forum before because 1. I am a huge Devin Townsend fan and 2. I'm a huge forum whore. Well I've signed up now anyways, and plan to add this to my regular forum rotation.

Quick history on my fandom, I was going through some pretty big life changes in the fall of '03, including the end of my first real relationship, a coming out of shell sort of thing and discovering music outside the box. During this period I decided to take in a show that consisted of SYL, The Devin Townsend Band and Zimmer's Hole. A buddy came with me, we were two guys who had never really seen any "metal" shows (I had been one a few weeks earlier where Into Eternity had played), so let me first point out that Zimmer's Hole was a little bit much. DTB tried to play after that, but breakers kept blowing before he could really get past the intro of the first song he was playing, and the rest of the show was cancelled.

HOWEVER, that intro (I don't even know what song it was for, perhaps someone else on this forum who saw another show on that tour, would have been supporting SYL/Accelerated Evolution in October of '03, hey if you know what that opening tune was tell me!) literally CHANGED MY LIFE. I bought Accelerated Evolution the next day, I've been a fan ever since. AE became one of 3 albums that were the soundtrack to my life in '03/'04, and it remains my favourite album of all time. I got to see SYL in '05, which was deadly, but I did not get a chance to see Devy solo until this year. Saw him in support of COB this summer, and just the other night on the Bearded and the Bald tour (coincidentally I'm bearded and bald-ing, but I digress). Ironically he had issues all night with the in-ear monitors, but at least the show wasn't cancelled!

Anyways, over the years I've been able to explore his catalog of music, and I can honestly say that I enjoy everything he has ever done. The one thing that speaks to me louder than anything else when it comes to music (and life in general) is honesty. Devin is always honest in his music, regardless of what venue it comes out in, and you can tell. Combine that with the sheer depth and diversity of his music (whether from album to album or even song to song or within one song), it's pretty much impossible to deny that he is a musical genius.

I suppose that this is supposed to be more of an introduction thread, but I thought it would make sense to point out why I'm here. As for me, I work 4 nights a week, play video games, watch TV, and generally do very little productive with my time haha. I might as well point out that I also play music, part of a band called Room 333 (http://www.reverbnation.com/room333), used to play in a band called Stillseed (http://www.myspace.com/stillseed RIP) and I certainly don't spend enough time doing it. I like to boast about my brother as well, as he's a musician I quite look up to (even though he's my little brother). As fans of multi-talented individuals who write varying types of music, some of you might enjoy some of his stuff too: http://www.myspace.com/giantthe, http://www.myspace.com/anarmyofmarmots, http://www.myspace.com/theantiquecarnival).

Sorry for the long winded introduction/wall of text. TL;DR? That happens with me sometimes.

I thought I might pop in and say Hi as well! I'm from Japan, and I currently reside in New Zealand for job reasons and whatnot. I've been quite a fan of the soft side of Devin's music; they're just amazingly beautiful. Still haven't heard all the materials yet however, but Terria, Addicted and Ocean Machines so far had been my favorite out of the ones I heard. I'd love to see the guy live (especially unplugged), but what are the chances of that happening when you live in NZ, haha...

I play in a few bands myself. Feel free to check them out! Reciprocity is an instrumental project (acoustic and piano, as of now) and Livsnekad is some doomy stuff with a slight kick of black metal.

Cheers!
