I feel like I'm always plugging this band on here, but check out Evergrey. They don't really have any growls, but they definitely deliver on melodies, heavy riffage (check out their new stuff), and spotlessly clean vocals. Thats my 2 cents, anyway.

Seems like you have pretty simillar music tastes to me, so I'll randomly reel off some bands from my iEvil iPod, hopefully some of them will suit your tastes -

Amorphis (esp Elegy), Arcturus (esp the Sham Mirrors), <the Code> (kind black matallish), Dredg (Leitmotif, other stuffs a bit light), Head Control System, Insomnium, Riverside, Daylight Dies and Swallow the Sun might be worth looking at too(bit miserable though).

I don't know if you'd enjoy all of those, but give 'em a try
