I can only recall seeing one good anime film: "Spirited Away".
I'm really digging samurai champloo at the moment. bleach is also F'ing AMAZING
Le Bump!
I've been watching Death Note of late, the manga of which was mentioned earlier. The anime is currently on episode 12 of 37, and two live action movies have been made. I've seen the first one, and it was pretty good. It doesn't follow the manga nearly as well as the anime does though.
Very good franchise.

I've been watching Death Note too actually. I really enjoy it. I must admit, nothing I have seen has compared to Evangelion. That series actually moved me. One of two series that has ever accomplished more to me than just entertainment. The other one being Monster. I 100% reccomend that series. It is however, 74 episodes long...
The only anime I've seen that I can say I didn't dislike is Hajime no Ippo. It's a series about a young boxer named Ippo and the characters are amazing...the whole series is just amazing. Strongly recommended.
I enjoy my anime, but I like the old school anime back when it was called 'Manga' and didn't envolve every movie with some chick in a school girl attire
.
If you want some really classic stuff go for, Akira, The Castle of Cegleostro, Wings on Honiamis, Battle Angel Alita, Cyber City Odea 808 (all 3 episodes), Mad Bull 34, Ghost in the Shell and Ninja Scroll, The Crying Freeman series...the list goes on. There is quite alot of good classic manga out there, but I haven't been kept upto date since I last got into it which was around 1999. Some of the new Anime is ok, not really my cup of tea. But im sure many people will say the same for the old school Manga.

I thought 'manga' was the book, whereas 'anime' was the (animated) film of the manga? Hmm....technicalities...heh.
I have a casual interest in the stuff anyway.
My favourite films have been: Akira, Ghost in the Shell 1+2 (still need to catch the series), Princess Mononoke, Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle and probably a few others.
As far as series go, I really loved: Cowboy Bebop (such a sad ending, and the film was awesome too), Hellsing, FLCL, Trigun, GTO.
Need to source some new stuff actually. Hmm...

My fav are: EVANGELION, ELFEN LIED, VISIONS OF ECAFLOWNE.
If someone knows an anime that is similar to one of these, list it here!

(of course, I'm only looking for some japanese audio with english subs...)
go with RahXephon. It's like Evangelion, only better and not so cheesy/pretentious

I love Elfen Lied!
Others I've seen that stand out are Detonator Orgun, Ranma, and Shadow Skill. Ranma and SS are both series, but SS has a movie aswell. All excellent.
I also remember seeing one years ago called Devil Boy/Man? I cant remember exactly, but I remember it's about this kid who gets half possessed by a demon, and gains most of the demon powers but retains his own mind, he has to fight all these other demons that terrorise people. I think in the last episode he has to fight Lucifer, although I'm not sure. I only saw 3 episodes.
My Ghost in the Shell DVD messed up.
The video went out of sync with the sound for some reason.

Oh and one more thing, I also like Gundam Wing and Dragonball Z.
Although I have only seen half of the DBZ uncut. The original version isn't exactly fit for kiddies, it's still a damn entertaining show, and Gundam Wing is just brilliantly written.
Don't laugh at me!
I'll laugh at meself!

Did you buy the DVD a while ago? I think some of the first pressings of that film had this problem. My R2 copy did, so I actually bought it for the second time recently.
You can get a box set of GiTS 1+2 for quite cheap, I say go for that!

It's probably my cheap-ass DVD player though.
I think that might be your player then. The GiTS issue was with the actual disc though. Makes it kind of unwatchable!
(I love saying 'GiTS'...)
