QVC. They're awful, awkward fuckers to do business with.

My cat's very sick -
he's also 17 years old. I'm fearing that this is his time

He hid himself in the garage and won't respond to anything, although he is still breathing.

Probably having a 'nam flashback. That's pretty old for a cat.

I'll have something up to cheer you up in a bit.

That's horrible. I hope there isn't much suffering.

There's a dead cat on the side of the road by the traffic lights near my house. I was out for a walk with my younger brother, I thought the cat was asleep first and then realised that it wasn't, so I went "Coley look at the k..! ars. Look at the cars." I don't think I've ever felt so upset in all my life, I'd never seen a dead cat before and the proximity was about two feet. Beings I like shouldn't die, dammit.

I see them and dogs on the side of the road all the time =/ I always hate seeing dogs and cats after they've been hit by a car...

Woah thats... horrible :|

Someone a friend of mine knew heard her dad yell one evening, and went to see what happened. He was on the floor, foaming at the mouth - He'd just been electrocuted by the washing machine or similar. I can't even imagine how much that'd mess your head up.

Strange thing is, she went to school the next day, not seeming to be all that emotionally disturbed. I guess it was the shock of it or something.

I pulled a woman out of a car she had just crashed, waited with her for an ambulance to arrive. Broken leg, bleeding, blah blah. Then I went home, got a cup of tea and then went to college. It took about five hours for it to hit me that I just pulled someone who could have potentially died out of a car. And that point I didn't know if I should laugh or cry or something. xD But yes, shock can totally numb your system for a while.

Had the person just dropped dead on the tracks á la "Give My Love to Rose" kind of thing or was it a more Fallout 3 "bloody mess" type scenario?

I often think the impact of seeing someone severely injured hinges on whether or not you see them getting to the broken state. Like, if you'd seen him being electrocuted or seen the car crash happen in front of you, I think it'd be a lot worse. I once saw a kid caught up in a huge explosion and running around like a human torch right in front of me. He died, and I think if I had just seen him being loaded in the ambulance or whatever and not seen him going from happy and perfectly fine to fireball it wouldn't have been as horrendous.

It's probably the sociopath in me talking, but when I hear about people committing suicide by jumping in front of trains I can't help but feel that they did something horribly selfish and inconsiderate to even people who don't know them. For one thing, dying is a very taboo, difficult to understand issue so taking ones own life is even more complex and confusing. As has been mentioned in all the posts above, being witness to a death or suicide can irreparably damage somebody to the extent that it has a profoundly negative impact on their life. You don't really get more blatant than a train - it is after all public transport. You won't know who's looking; there could be a young child present who witnesses the accident - think of how that would scar him/her.

Also, it would probably make the trains late and muck up my day.

Thank you everyone -
If by flashbacks of 'Nam, you mean flashbacks of getting in scraps with the neighbor's cat, Islands,... then yes, maybe that plagued him a little  He had many a notch in his ears!

Well, unfortunately we had to euthanize Pickles today  He was going into heart failure, his lungs were filling with fluid, his liver wasn't functioning properly... So, we stayed with him for a good while, and then he went to sleep.

It's ok, it's worse to keep someone alive when they're meant to die. So, it was the right thing to do.

So as not to dwell on such unfortunate news - somebody tell me something un-awesome... I know I'm not the only one here with horrible news :)

I agree, entirely. I think a part of it is when you see it happen, a little bit inside you thinks "Oh god, look what is happening to them!" And, at the same time, "That could have happened to me!". When you see them being loaded into an ambulance, it's only "I wonder what happened."
