He hid himself in the garage and won't respond to anything, although he is still breathing.

That's horrible. I hope there isn't much suffering.
There's a dead cat on the side of the road by the traffic lights near my house. I was out for a walk with my younger brother, I thought the cat was asleep first and then realised that it wasn't, so I went "Coley look at the k..! ars. Look at the cars." I don't think I've ever felt so upset in all my life, I'd never seen a dead cat before and the proximity was about two feet. Beings I like shouldn't die, dammit.

Woah thats... horrible![]()
Someone a friend of mine knew heard her dad yell one evening, and went to see what happened. He was on the floor, foaming at the mouth - He'd just been electrocuted by the washing machine or similar. I can't even imagine how much that'd mess your head up.
Strange thing is, she went to school the next day, not seeming to be all that emotionally disturbed. I guess it was the shock of it or something.

Had the person just dropped dead on the tracks á la "Give My Love to Rose" kind of thing or was it a more Fallout 3 "bloody mess" type scenario?
I often think the impact of seeing someone severely injured hinges on whether or not you see them getting to the broken state. Like, if you'd seen him being electrocuted or seen the car crash happen in front of you, I think it'd be a lot worse. I once saw a kid caught up in a huge explosion and running around like a human torch right in front of me. He died, and I think if I had just seen him being loaded in the ambulance or whatever and not seen him going from happy and perfectly fine to fireball it wouldn't have been as horrendous.

If by flashbacks of 'Nam, you mean flashbacks of getting in scraps with the neighbor's cat, Islands,... then yes, maybe that plagued him a littleHe had many a notch in his ears!
Well, unfortunately we had to euthanize Pickles todayHe was going into heart failure, his lungs were filling with fluid, his liver wasn't functioning properly... So, we stayed with him for a good while, and then he went to sleep.
It's ok, it's worse to keep someone alive when they're meant to die. So, it was the right thing to do.
So as not to dwell on such unfortunate news - somebody tell me something un-awesome... I know I'm not the only one here with horrible news
