Not sure why. These were just the ones that came to mind. Again, excluding Dev songs.

Both recorded not long before their deaths, which no doubt adds to their sadness:

Radiohead, of course:

Gotta throw a Depeche Mode song in there:

More melancholy than sad, but fuck me what a classic song:

So many choices, but I'll just go with the five that generally stick in my head most:

Dev-related would be The Death of Music, Planet Rain and Suicide.

People sometimes tell me this one is cheesy. I say fuck you. It's been immensely helpful in my struggle to deal with my mother's death.

Then there's a wad of songs from Woods of Ypres. Only met David Gold once or twice but his death was a fucking kick to my emotional equivalent of a scrotum.

QotSA's Long Slow Goodbye.

And in a totally different, stupid way : Electric Six's Transatlantic Flight. The "In the event of a water landing, you can use my body as a flotation device" line is sooo heart-wrenching

I have to say, I hate sad songs. I don't see the point, cuz' if I'm happy, I don't want to hear a sad song, and if I'm sad, I certainly don't want to hear a sad song. E6 was pretty much the only thing I listened to last year when I was pretty down, behind a curtain of stupid lyrics I find this band bona fide with energy and enthusiasm.
I don't know, maybe there's something missing in my personal development, or maybe it's just the way I am.

This song always resonated with me for some reason. It's essentially an excerpt from one of Shakespeare's sonnets but the way its sung always makes me think about what I would feel like if my fiance died. The second one is by Triptykon which I was a little surprised at initially, but its a similar sort of vibe etc.
