3rd place...yay! I think it's pretty cool that Löw gave players that did not play in this world cup yet a chance today. So they got their world cup moment too.

Feckin brilliant game... Forlán hitting the bar with that free kick at the death was agony! Delighted for the Germans though. They were fantastic this World Cup... I gotsta get me that black jersey as well. Tis shwanky.

That was abysmal. Really and truly fucking awful standard for any match, let alone a World Cup final... Van Bommel, De Jong and Robben should've seen a red and joined Heitinga on the sidelines. It was a tough game for the referee, but I think Webb could have been better. He's been the best of the tournament so far but he let a lot slide tonight that he shouldn't have.

I'm delighted Spain won... One of the Irish pundits was talking about how a sport is summed up by it's champions, and that Spanish team are a far, far better representation of football than that Dutch side. They went out and played good football, I think. Attacking, positive football that had the Dutch on the back foot for a very large portion of the game. That said I think the Netherlands should've and would've won it if it wasn't for Iker Casillas being an absolute fucking hero between the posts. I really expected Robben to sink those one-on-one chances but the auld Jahbulani just didn't seem to want to go in the net this evening...

But really, as Lars said, the true winner in all of this can only be...

Oh, and Diego Forlan as well... He deserved the Golden Ball award. He carried that Uruguay team and really was outstanding in every single game they played. I know he's stated he wants to stay at Atletico but I'd say there'll be plenty of big-money offers flying in for him after the season he's had!

it was more like watching a kung fu event That one kick to the chest looked damn brutal...and he only got a yellow card for it. Really don't know what was going on inside that ref's head. I can understand that he may have wanted to keep it an 11 vs 11 game for as long as possible. But come on, if that doesn't get a player a red card then what else does? Pulling out a gun and shooting another player in the head or?

The 3rd place match was fantastic! I was very glad to see the Germans regain their confidence, and the scoreline is exactly what I expected. An open game with the Germans edging over Uruguay (also that last shot by Fórlan was so intense). Beautiful game--think I'm going to go out and buy me a Schweinsteiger jersey.

The final was atrocious. Bad attitudes all around; no one played exceptional football. There should've been more reds (and not just to the Dutch) than were given, and by the end I really wished both teams could've lost and the cup been awarded to some passersby. It really looked like a pretty equal game, as far as football and opportunities go, and it's very irritating to hear the commentators lean so heavily to one side (Spain).

Before the game, I said that I bet Spain would win 1-0 with the goal having been scored in the last 5 minutes of extra time. I'm no octopus, but I did alright for that game!
