Okay, I'm seeing Symphony X pretty soon a pretty small venue (holds 600) and I was wondering if there was any way I could meet the band, being that it's a small venue. I'm also interested in meeting one of the opening bands, Into Eternity. Any tips?

 these bands arent celebrities dude. theyll meet everyone after the show, if not theyre most likely complete assholes and youd probably not want to meet them anyways

Flash the roadies.

No, seriously, I'm not any good at trying to meet the band after a show. I never try. Although, a girlfriend and I were approached by Motley Crue's management after a show once (Dr. Feelgood tour), asking us to meet them at a pizza joint and maybe show them around town because they'd never been to that area before (Pullman, Washington = WSU). So maybe you could do what we did and just stand in a hallway.

Maybe not.

Become friends with the promoter, go round back and ask if its ok to see the band...if that doesn't work, offer a bouncer a beer or two and see if he'll let you round back.

I usually meet bands due to me knowing alot people in the industry, best thing to do is become friends with anyone and everyone.

I have experiences on "both sides".

One thing is to just hang around the places band is sure to visit (tour bus is a great place to hang if you can get around it), and be
patient.

But nowadays it's just a lot easier, having a family with musician who is in quite popular band, so we wives and real
girlfriends (not those who you find tangled up your sleeve and begging you to take her backstage) usually get free
passes to shows and festivals.
Because of that, I've had a chance to meet my idols and many many bands I've never would've even dreamed of meeting!

And I can tell you, it is one of those WTF- is this real?- moments when you realize, that THAT world-wide famous finnish
band is having a barbeque party at OUR backyard with our friends :D
(they had a gig here, so they needed something relaxing before it)

My best advice:
Hang around places where the band is passing/ doing stuff

Advice #2:
If you see someone carrying something, stay out of their way

Advice #3:
Act properly. Don't annoy anyone.
